My inspiration: Luvleescrappin on YouTube - Mixed Media Canvas Collage
First, I started with an 8" x 10" blank canvas.
I had a general idea of what I wanted the piece to look like. But I laid some of the elements down and took photos for reference.
I used a piece of pattern tissue from an old pattern and laid down with Mod Podge Matte. I crinkled the paper up in areas as I did not want it to lay perfectly flat. I wanted to have some texture for interest.
I used my heat tool to dry the Mod Podge. And then started laying down some embellishments. I used different colors and mixed materials. I had paper embellishments, metal, stone beads as well as plastic buttons. I knew that I would cover the entire piece with a couple of good coats of gesso.
I will list as many of the embellishments I used, but some of them were just "stuff" I found. Some were beads from broken costume jewelry, I have a jumbo paper clip somewhere in there.
Once the coats of gesso dried I used different sprays to add color. I used some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Dyan Reaveley Dylusions and some sprays I made with Perfect Pearls.

- Random jewelry making beads … stone and plastic
I just randomly put them down and glued the elements down when I was happy. I used a glue gun, Aleene's Fast Dry Glue or Mod Podge depending on what I was laying down. I just decided to go for it.
I after all the glue and Mod Podge was dry, I gave the entire canvas a good couple of coats with plain white gesso. No special brand. I just used what I had on hand. Probably got it from Hobby Lobby.
- Tattered Angels
- Gold
- Electric Blue
- Stone
- Woven Burlap
- Tarnish Silver
- Dylusions by Dyan Reaveley
- Vibrant Turquoise
- Pure Sunshine
- Melted Chocolate mixed with water and Copper Perfect Pearls
- Perfect Pearls Gold mixed with water in mini spritzer.
I just sprayed until I got the look I wanted. Be sure to use your heat tool to dry in between spraying. It gets pretty wet and will make some of your embellishments lift off the canvas.
It sprays on bright but as it dries it tones down a good bit.
After the whole thing was dry, I added a few more embellishments. I put some pearl stickers in some of the flowers and used a flower brad for the inside of the flower at top mid-left. I will be adding on to this little project but wanted to show everyone right away!!
