"Faith" Mixed Media Canvas

My inspiration:   Luvleescrappin on YouTube - Mixed Media Canvas Collage

First, I started with an 8" x 10" blank canvas.

I had a general idea of what I wanted the piece to look like. But I laid some of the elements down and took photos for reference.

I used a piece of pattern tissue from an old pattern and laid down with Mod Podge Matte. I crinkled the paper up in areas as I did not want it to lay perfectly flat. I wanted to have some texture for interest.

I used my heat tool to dry the Mod Podge. And then started laying down some embellishments. I used different colors and mixed materials. I had paper embellishments, metal, stone beads as well as plastic buttons. I knew that I would cover the entire piece with a couple of good coats of gesso.

I will list as many of the embellishments I used, but some of them were just "stuff" I found. Some were beads from broken costume jewelry, I have a jumbo paper clip somewhere in there.

  • Faith letters - American Crafts Silver Foil "Thickers" Stickers
  • Plastic buttons
  • The Paper Studio Bottle Cap
  • Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers Die was used to cut card stock, chipboard and other papers
  • A couple of random flower embellishments
  • The Paper Studio Roll Burlap
  • Random jewelry pieces
  • Paperclip
  • Random jewelry making beads … stone and plastic
I just randomly put them down and glued the elements down when I was happy. I used a glue gun, Aleene's Fast Dry Glue or Mod Podge depending on what I was laying down. I just decided to go for it.

I after all the glue and Mod Podge was dry, I gave the entire canvas a good couple of coats with plain white gesso. No special brand. I just used what I had on hand. Probably got it from Hobby Lobby.

Once the coats of gesso dried I used different sprays to add color. I used some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Dyan Reaveley Dylusions and some sprays I made with Perfect Pearls.

  • Tattered Angels
    • Gold
    • Electric Blue
    • Stone
    • Woven Burlap
    • Tarnish Silver
  • Dylusions by Dyan Reaveley
    • Vibrant Turquoise
    • Pure Sunshine
    • Melted Chocolate mixed with water and Copper Perfect Pearls
  • Perfect Pearls Gold mixed with water in mini spritzer.
I just sprayed until I got the look I wanted. Be sure to use your heat tool to dry in between spraying. It gets pretty wet and will make some of your embellishments lift off the canvas.

It sprays on bright but as it dries it tones down a good bit.

After the whole thing was dry, I added a few more embellishments. I put some pearl stickers in some of the flowers and used a flower brad for the inside of the flower at top mid-left. I will be adding on to this little project but wanted to show everyone right away!!

We live by faith, not by sight.

Mixed Media Canvas "Trust in the Lord"

I started with a 16x20 flat canvas panel. I cut 2 sheets of 12 x 12 Stampin' Up! First Edition Designer Series scrapbook paper into various sizes. I used gel medium to glue down all the pieces. I had to use some scrap paper to fill in some gaps. I watered down some plain white gesso and gave the entire canvas a good white washing. I then printed out all the words to the scripture I wanted to use and cut out some scrapbook paper into heart shapes. Before gluing down all the elements, I used stencils and modeling paste to add texture. After it was dry,  I used various Lindy's Stamp Gang Sprays to color the entire canvas. And I also used a variety of rubber stamps on the canvas. I inked the edges of the hearts as well as the words for the scripture. Then I glued down using the gel medium. Here are a few photos captured in the process of making this project. Cocklebells Coral Azure Sea Asters Glory of ...

Mixed Media "John 3:16" & February Color Challenge at Lindy's Stamp Gang

Lindy's Stamp Gang February Color Challenge I had a general idea of what I wanted the piece to look like. But I laid some of the elements down and took photos for reference. I used Mod Podge Matte to lay down embellishments. I used modeling paste and a couple of stencils to add some texture. As I did in my previous project post "Faith", "Love" and "Bailey's Laugh" Mixed Media pieces, I laid out all sorts of elements using various glues and gave the entire canvas a couple of good coats of gesso. And used Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst sprays and their Magicals to achieve the look I wanted. Thanks for visiting!
